Gates of Muspel – Karmanjaka

Released last February 11th, 2022–via Grind to Death Records, is Karmanjaka and their 3rd full-length album: Gates of Muspel.

The album follows their latest EP Hugin released in 2021.

Gates of Muspel is an album that is between Melodeath and Progressive Death Metal, although it is Death Metal.

I need to consider the fact that Karmanjaka started as a one-man-band (which I always admire) in 2016 but evolved rapidly into five mate band soon after.

Cool and interesting album. Karmanjaka needs more attention.

XX – Re-Armed

From Kerava, Finland–last January 27th (2022) was released XX by Re-Armed independently to cut out extra time during the Covid crisis and to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The style is reminiscent of Keep of Kalessin and Amorphis with a mix of death and thrash metal, but still melodeath.

To share the band’s words:

“We wanted to put together a somewhat special release that includes something new, but also echoes from the past. The new and the latest single, ‘Tomorrow,’ from the release is a great example of that. The track was originally released under the name of ‘Morrow’ in 2002 as the first demo for the band. It was more than exciting to shake its foundations after all these years and make it a much better song. Now you can actually feel and hear its strong emotional charge that’s been hidden in that shitty demo version, heh.

“Of course, it could have been way easier to pick up some songs from all the previous releases and make just some kind of collection album, but it sounded already, in the beginning, a so damn boring idea. And since coronavirus came and shuffled the pack with our previous album promotion tours, etc., it basically canceled most of our booked shows at that time. What else do we have than time to make some new music? Staying put and waiting for some virus to disappear would have been a pure waste of time. Massive thank goes to our partners in crime, all these guys and girls who helped us to put this bungle together. We shared our vision with them and asked for help here and there, especially this happened with the special track versions. The end result is great and special indeed. Enjoy!”

Re-Armed promo of XX

Not bad, but it doesn’t dishevel my wonderful bald head.

‘Battle Through Time’ by Undrask – A Comment

Out today, Friday January 27th 2017, is self-released ‘Battle Through Time‘ by Undrask.

A melodic death metal act from Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, Undrask delivers a powerful album in the veins of early In Flames and Amon Amarth.

Their musical talent is reflected in the well played melodies and the album is really well produced. The whole is tight and all instruments sound great. The vocals are more in the range of guttural sounding.

Battle Through Time‘ by Undrask tells the story of someone lost in time, and the music accompanies us through the whole tale. All in all, a great album sure to please a lot of new fans. Available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Inritum by Era Decay – A Comment

Out last November 11th 2016 was self-released Inritum by Era Decay.

A Romanian melodic death metal band, they present us an album that surely grooves and is also melo-aggressive.

Although not found easily, you are asked to seek this album as it contains really nice songs that should be accessible to all.

Unfortunately not found on Bandcamp.
