Lost Elegies – Primalfrost

Cold as ice Primalfrost from the man-band Dean Paul Arnold (touring guitarist Belphegor, Operus, ex-Vital Remains) was released last Dec 28th, 2021 – Lost Elegies; a poignant metal epic in the realms of folklorish metal and melodic Scandinavian metal.

I’m nearly fond of this kind of music nearing Amorphis and Scandinavian metal. But still, I enjoyed listening the album the multiple times it took to lay this post.

Enjoy!

Guillotine – Hässlig

Cool new band with screeching vocals and punkish-grindcore, Hässlig. I haven’t found much info on the band. Their new realease Guillotine, which came out this year’s November 26th, is interesting enough to remember them and hope for some more releases in the future.

A cool, dark album! Enjoy!

Hope by Mord’A’Stigmata – A Comment

mas-hope

Out this Friday, February 17th 2017, is Hope by Mord’A’Stigmata via Pagan Records.

A band from Poland that is in between black metal, blackened death metal and post metal, Mord’A’Stigmata offers us a journey of dark emotions, which the main brain of the band, Static, tries to explain in the brief following citation, that their music is more than simple black metal songs:

[…] This is what this record is about. It is hard for me to call the music on “Hope” black metal. Anyway, I get the impression that the term is frequently abused and given a wrong meaning nowadays. As usual, we came up with a mixture of styles to be named by people wiser than us. We play more with hearts than with heads and do not intend to play someone we are not. And that’s actually what “Hope” is, the music of pure emotions.

In all, Hope by Mord’A’Stigmata is a good dark album of four songs (which the majority runs for near or over 12 minutes) and, along with a great other band, Obscure Sphinx, they are touring this spring to present their new album, and we hope, they’ll have great success as such album deserves.

A must to have on your playlist, available on Bandcamp.

‘The Cursed Travails of the Demeter’ by Vircolac – A Comment

vircolac_demeter_ep_cover

Out last Halloween, October 31st 2016, was released ‘The Cursed Travails of the Demeter‘ EP by Vircolac via Dark Descent Records in North America and on Sepulchral Voice in Europe.

A blackened death metal act from Dublin, Ireland, Vircolac delivers a powerful short album with four aggressive songs that dishevels and is sure to please fans of black metal.

Although in the genre of blackened death metal, Vircolac wants to bring back the essence of death metal and fuse its origins in what would give us ‘The Cursed Travails of the Demeter‘, a cruise that both Dracula and Vircolac wants us to take in the journey of death metal from its beginning up until now.

A shorty to please many, ‘The Cursed Travails of the Demeter‘ EP by Vircolac is available on Bandcamp.

Burials/Exhausted Prayer (Eponymous/Split) – A Comment

image-1

Out today Friday January 13th 2017 is a split eponymous album by Burials and Exhausted Prayer via Apes Who Looked Up and Rose Quarter Records.

A half death metal and half blackened death metal album with original riffs and musicality, the Burials/Exhausted Prayer split the a kind of album that you get the hang of it really quickly and you love after a listen.

A great album to have in your playlist, the first half of the split is played by Burials. From Portland, Oregon, USA, they ingeniously play four songs which are well written and bring fresh sounds to our ears. A bit half progressive with aggressive beats, the guttural vocals of the singer goes along pretty well with the awesome musicianship of the band.

The other half played by Exhausted Prayer, from Los Angeles, USA, presents us great blackened death metal which fits nicely with the Burials songs. A bit less progressive but utterly awesome, Exhausted Prayer delivers pounding blasted drums and great screaming vocals. The riffing is excellent and the melodies are well written. A band to watch for they have great talent.

A must to listen, I highly recommend this album to death and black metal fans. A well recorded album, available on Bandcamp.

‘Due Diaboli Et Apocalypse’ by SevenSins – A Comment

157-1

Out last September 20th 2016 was ‘Due Diaboli Et Apocalypse‘ by SevenSins via Satanath Records and MurdHer Records.

A symphonic blackened death metal album by an amazing band from Kazakhstan that delivers powerfully like Dimmu Borgir and its siblings.

Formed in 2008 we are left wondering if we’ll hear more about this amazing band. Info is scarse and obscure but we do know that they sing about the medival times of their country and its alentours. Fortunately available on Bandcamp.
